Rosa A. Arroyo

June 15, 1931 – January 5, 2026

Rosa Amelia Arroyo, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and the matriarch of her family, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of faith, resilience, creativity, and love that spans beyond generations.

Born as Rosa Amelia Rios in Lares, Puerto Rico, Rosa moved to New York in 1950, where she met and united with her future husband, Santos Lázaro Arroyo. Together, they built a life grounded in hard work, devotion to family, and deep spiritual faith, later making their home in New Jersey.

Rosa was a gifted homemaker and creator. She worked quietly to support her family and sewed, knitted, and crocheted beautiful clothing. She loved cooking and creating, making her home a place of warmth, nourishment, and welcome. After 1998, she devoted herself fully to her family, continuing to serve as its heart and center.

A woman of deep faith, Rosa passed down belief in God through prayer and example. She preserved culture through food, language, stories, photographs, traditions, and history—ensuring that future generations would always know where they came from.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Santos Lázaro Arroyo, in 2014, and her son, Juan Arroyo, in 2011.

Rosa Amelia Arroyo is survived by her children: Rosa Whitaker, Evelyn Arroyo, Santos Arroyo Jr., and Mildred Bowman; her ten grandchildren; and her sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four siblings.

Rosa lived with wisdom, fortitude, and steadfast faith. She was the center of her family—the one who held it together, guided it forward, and protected its legacy. Her influence continues through the generations she nurtured. She now rests in eternal peace in the presence of the Lord and will be remembered always as a woman who lived her name with honor, love, and purpose.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00PM.
