She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Toms River, Central Regional High school in Bayville, graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Ocean County College, before graduating from Georgian Court College/University with a Bachelor’s then a Master’s Degree in Social Work.
Sandra worked many jobs in her lifetime from being a butcher at her local IGA and ShopRite, to being a substitute teacher, Addiction Counselor, and a Social Worker for the Ocean County Board of Social Services. After 27 years of diligent service to the Board of Social Services, she retired in 2006.
Sandra, also known as Sister James, was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints since her baptism in 1974. She served many callings in the Toms River Ward and went on to serve a 12-month proselytizing mission in Tucson Arizona in 2006.
She was involved in service-oriented organizations and causes all of her life. Everything from Girl/Cub/Boy Scouts to The Navy Wives Relief Organization, Fleet Reserve, and church callings. She enjoyed giving service to others and was very good at it. She had a caring and kind heart for others. One of her favorite service causes was the Lion’s Club International. ‘Lion Sandy’ served in a variety of positions but was most proud of her time as President of her local club. She was adamant that children be screened for eye diseases insomuch that she headed up the program to implement eye screenings in local schools and day cares throughout Ocean County New Jersey.
Sandra is survived by her brother Russell Algor of Denver Colorado, her daughter Cordelia Ralph and son-in-law Paul Ralph of Plymouth North Carolina, her son Iain James and daughter-in-law Renee James of Lakehurst New Jersey as well as her three grandchildren Rory, Aidan, and Mackenzie James also of Lakehurst NJ.
While she is being privately buried in the Good Luck Cemetery in Lacey Township, there will be a Celebration of Life Gathering to honor her on Wednesday, October 11th at 6pm. The Gathering will take place at The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1348 Old Freehold Road in Toms River New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, the family has expressed that donations be made to Lion’s Club International, her favorite charity. To post a tribute, please visit www.andersoncampbellwhiting.com.
