Cruz was born on May 3, 1935, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Felipe and Marina Garcia. Cruz grew up in a large and lively upbringing where she learned the values of family, faith, and strength. The lessons she learned had a profound impact on the self-reliant, strong-willed woman we all loved.
Cruz was known as a determined woman who loved her family and friends deeply. She had a grand sense of adventure and loved to travel with her husband and her tight-knit group of friends all over the United States. She was never one to pass up a good trip to Biloxi or Las Vegas. She had many lifelong friends that she shared very deep and special relationships with. To her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she was their number one fan and confidant. From attending every sporting event to sitting at her kitchen table with a coffee chatting about their weeks. She truly had the ability to make everyone who walked through her door feel special.
But the thing Cruz loved above all else was spending time with her beloved husband, Chevo. She enjoyed the time they spent together going on vacations, going dancing, and spending time enjoying their children and grandchildren.
Cruz was a devoted lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was an active member of Gualupanas and participated frequently in the Jamaicas. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, she lived a life of service, compassion, and quiet strength.
Cruz is survived by her loving children, two daughters, Mary Ester Hernandez and Cynthia Maldonado; son, Eusebio “Bo” Armendarez III and wife, Ann; she was a proud “Grandma” to her grandchildren, Ernie, Eric, Raul, J’Maure, Andie, Alexandria, and Amelia; her great-grandchildren Kristina, Ernest Phillip, Jr., Jason, Eniecia, Eusebio, Eusteno, Eryca, Alexis, Summer, Eric, Jr., Addie, Lincoln, and Cruz; and her 12 great-great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Jane Ozuna and husband, Felix; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Cruz was preceded in death by her parents, Felipe and Marina Garcia; her siblings, Felipe Garcia, Jr., Jessie Garcia, Manual Garcia, Vicente Garcia, Joe Garcia, Calletana Esquibel, Linda Castillo, Luz Crump, and Valenta Arrieta.
Her family takes comfort in knowing Cruz has been welcomed into the arms of Our Lord. Her journey of faith is complete; she now dwells in the light of God’s eternal love.
