Dorothy Jean Burkett Lewis

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2010, at Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Paul Goodrich of First United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the facility following the service for reflection and fellowship.

Dorothy was born in Young County near Olney, Texas, on July 26 1936, to the late Levi and Grace (Nicholson) Burkett. She was raised in the Wichita Falls area and graduated from Holliday High School. Dorothy married Elbert Benton Lewis in 1958. She worked nearly 50 years as a secretary in the Oil business for companies such as Staley Oil, Wichita River Oil Corporation, Wichita Industries and Eagle Petroleum Company. Dorothy was a very kind and caring person who always saw the best in every situation and in everyone she met. She was generous to anyone in need who crossed her path. She was a wonderful mother and loving grandmother.

Dorothy was preceded in death by loving mother Grace and wonderful stepfather Joe E. Craddock. She is survived by her son, Bryan Lewis and wife Beth of Lake Jackson, Texas; a brother, David Burkett and wife Marcey of Granbury, Texas; a sister, Donna Adams and husband Jim of Wichita Falls, Texas; two grandchildren, Daniel and Baylee Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
