

Edward M. Kuhn, 88, of Wichita Falls died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at a local hospice facility. Services have been planned for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 17, 2011 at First United Methodist Church officiated by Reverend John Dillard and Reverend Deacon Bill Holder. Interment with military honors will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
Ed was born March 27, 1922 to Robert and Myrtle Kuhn in Fort Worth, TX and went to public schools there. Edward attended University of Texas in Arlington and Texas Tech University. He was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, then served as a weapons procurement officer in Naqusaki Japan after their surrender. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 28th Marines, 5th Division which captured Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima. He was involved in management of oil exploration and production for several independent operators during 60 years in the oil industry. The last several years of his career he was associated with L.D. Burns and P.C. Burns.
He married Rhonda Juanice Smith June 3, 1943 in Fort Worth, TX while in the Marine Corps and together they raised two children. He returned from overseas in early 1946 and he and Juanice have lived in Wichita Falls since that time. He has been an active member of First United Methodist Church since 1947 and a member of the board and various offices and committees. Ed loved golf, he was a voracious reader and he had a passion for landscaping. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Kuhn is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Juanice Kuhn in 2010; daughter, Claudia Kuhn Somes in 2005; parents, Robert and Myrtle Kuhn; brothers, Al Kuhn, Robert Kuhn; and sister, Helen Morris.
Survivors include his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Paula Kuhn of Burleson, TX; four grandchildren and their spouses, Bryan Kuhn of Burleson, TX, Kimberly and Jamie Moss, Logan and Crystal Somes all of Wichita Falls, Kelly and Matt Davis of Orange County, CA; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
