

Attended Sacred Heart Catholic School for 8 years and continued his education in special education at Nettie Marshall Elementary School until age 21. He worked at the sheltered workshop which was started by Austin Heights Baptist Church.
In 1982 George moved to Horizon House in Wichita Falls, TX, where he worked at the Vocational Enrichment Center. He moved to Texoma Christian Care Center in 2008. He was a faithful member of Lamar Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. He was a member of People First and ARCWC.
George loved his family, his extended family at Texoma CCC and the Texas Longhorns. He loved bingo at the Elks Lodge, music, riding the bus, church, musicals, looking at fire trucks, parades, July 4, and travel. He collected aluminum cans, UT mugs and glasses and ball point pens.
Preceeded in death by his parents and brother Joel (Joe) H.B. Burk of Nacogdoches. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth Burk Newton and husband Gene and sister-in-law Sue Beth Burk; nephews Joel B. Burk and wife Kenna, Jay Brody Burk and wife Darla and Nathan Gean Newton and Doug Crawford; nieces Suzanna Burk Yates and Melaina Newton Armstrong and husband Landon; great nephews Devin and Dayton Yates, Blake and Austin Burk, Trenton Hafley, Nathan Reid Newton and Brody Armstrong; great nieces Savannah Yates, Ryann Gregory, Lauren Lozipone, Payton Feix and Cierra Sanchez; great nephew Noah Cuatt; and his loyal friend Norman Ransom; cousins George S. Barham III and wife Patsy Barham and their children, George S. Barham, IV, Robert Barham and Bonnie Hawk.
Funeral services will be 3:30 P.M. Friday, December 12, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls with the Rev. Paul Goodrich and Lydia Pellikan officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Nacogdoches, TX with the Rev. Patsy Barham officiating.
