Reverend George Easter, Born August 27, 1943, a native of Waldo, Arkansas, grew up in a family of soldiers, educators, and ministers, so his blending of the careers is not unusual. He united with the church and was baptized at an early age and was active in church throughout his teen years. He began as a Sunday School teacher. Then later he served as an Usher, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Chairman of deacons. Rev. Easter accepted the call to the Ministry in March 1987 and was licensed to preach by Rev. Dr. M.O. Cooper of St. Matthews Baptist Church in College Station, TX. For five years, he hosted a segment on the Mission Gospel Train radio program entitled “Basic Principles of Christian Living”. He also conducted a nursing home ministry at River Oaks Care Center for 16 years. He served as youth minister for 8 years at Shiloh Baptist Church before becoming Minister of Christian Education at New Hope Baptist Church in Vernon Texas. He became pastor of New Hope in 2004 and remained for 10 years. After which he returned to Shiloh in 2014 and has served as Associate Minister until he became ill.
He received a Bachelor's Degree at Arkansas AM&N College at Pine Bluff and also holds Master Degrees in Counseling and Administration from Prairie View A&M University at Prairie View, Texas and Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. He has completed 72 hours of advanced study in Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Rev. Easter served 27 years in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserves. He retired at the rank of Major. During his military career, he served as Assistant Registrar at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. He taught Military Science at Texas A&M University for three years. At Sheppard AFB he was supervisor of Curriculum Development and Instructor Training.
Rev. Easter also served 31 years in public education, including eleven years in the Edgewood Independent School District where he served as classroom teacher, Counselor, and Vice Principal, and 17 years in the Wichita Falls Independent School District where he taught Science at Barwise Middle School.
Rev. Easter resided in Wichita Falls and participated in various community activities. He and Mrs. Easter have four sons, Gregory, Gerald, Geoffrey, and Gary and a daughter Marva. Rev. and Sister Easter have 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Friday August 19, 2022 at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held10 AM Saturday August 20, 2022 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, TX under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home.
