

Born on February 11, 1935 in Wichita Falls, Texas, Jean lived a long and full life. She was preceded in death by parents OC and Annabel Rutledge, husband of 67 years W Ray Barnes, son in law Scott Tarwater, and sister in law DyAnn Barnes. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, & friend known for her love of family, sage advice and love for education. She is survived by 3 children, Cindy Williams (David) of Wichita, Kansas; Donna Tarwater of Flower Mound, Texas; and Julie Olsen of Austin, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Renée Hildebrand (Steve), Amanda Larigan (Tim), Reece Tarwater (Krissy), Erica Jacobi, Andrew Olsen & Isabella Olsen. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and a beloved cousin Ronnie Hicks.
Jean was a member of First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls, and was a devoted Christian. She graduated from Midwestern University and started her teaching career at McGaha Elementary where she taught 3rd grade, she then went on to get her Master’s Degree in Psychology and later finished her career working for West Wichita Co-Op where she serviced homebound students in Wichita County.
A service to honor her life will be held on September 20 @ 11:00 at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial Park gravesite. 1917 Archer City Hwy, Wichita Falls, TX. Reception will follow the service. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. For those desiring, the family asks for donations be made to First Baptist Church or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
