When I was in high school in Kodiak, Joyce's home along with my sister's home were frequently a sanctuary for me. I spent many nights out on the base  (usually when your Dad was gone) and Kathy was just a baby. She'd load me up on Dr.  Pepper (in a bottle no less instead of a can which was impossible to get in Kodiak's grocery stores!), her good cooking, funny insights and great conversations. She gave herself and her time to me even though I was just a teenager. When they moved out to Dark Lake near us, we continued having a great friendship.  Even though we lost contact after my college years, I have never forgotten what she did for me and what she meant to me at such an important time in my life. My heart goes out to all of you.

I first got to know Joyce in December 2017 when we worked together to plan a graduation party for my Son, And her Step Son, Ricky.  I learned right away about her quick wit and her desire to have fun with life.  We had fun working with each other and had the same goal in mind to make it the best graduation party we could for the Son we both loved.  I thank her for the very positive impact she had on his life in so very many ways.  After we moved to Wichita Falls in March of 2020, in spite of Covid  Pandemic and many months of restrictions, we became close friends.  I witnessed her ability to put others before herself on many occasions especially when she was in pain, had breathing difficulties and could hardly walk.  She was an inspiration to me on how to face life’s many challenges.  We were even able to go to Ricky’s next graduation together!  Again, a momentous occasion that might not have happened without her support through the years.  I will miss our many laughs and pedicures together.  Joyce was one of the most generous and loving woman I have known.  I’m thankful you are no longer in pain! 

I only knew Joyce for a short amount of time but am saddened by the loss of a sweet friend, a gentle and caring soul. Joyce made the BEST chocolate chip cookies and eagerly shared her recipe with me to which my kids exclaimed, “Dad, these are the best cookies ever!” Thank you Joyce. 
She also was always kind to me, with a good word and loving smile. I know I will miss her. 

I met Joyce for the first time when she flew into DFW Airport to visit my Dad. It just so happened to be my birthday. Instead of whisking off to finally be able to spend time together in person, they came through Arlington and took me and Allan to lunch to celebrate (my birthday and their reunion). We had great conversations and lots of laughs! Joyce did not hold back how much she adored my Dad. She was smitten! It wasn't hard to like her, enjoy being around her, and falling in love with her. While she was warned about how crazy our family can be, she was never dissuaded. She embraced it! I have wonderful memories of our trip to Vegas for their wedding, and of course the ski trip to Colorado. Those were FUN trips! I remember going to Texas Rangers games annually for Dad's birthday. Joyce fit right in with the Staats night owls. I could always count on her for late night text message sessions. I've missed those lately. Joyce was a beautiful, amazing woman, who loved BIG! Thank you for embracing my little family (Allan and Michael). We love and miss you so much!! Thank you for loving my Dad to infinity and beyond! You made him so happy! God bless you Joyce.

Dear sweet Joyce,
Remember when you conspiratorially Face Timed me to tell me that you planned to fly me over from Europe so that you could surprise my brother AND my sister at the same time! How surprised I was and delighted that you wanted to do that for me, for us. Then we both realized that Chuck would have to be in on it in order to make it work.
So your plan changed and the three of us conspired to surprise the heck out of Cheryl and Verle, as they had already planned to combine Cheryl’s judging work in Ft. Worth with a visit to Wichita Falls.
And, you did it! You got me over there! It was so good to see my Bro’ and you…and, the rest of the Texas famdambly! But the truly awesome part was when Cheryl and Verle finally arrived. You and Chuck did a tour of your house, while you all tried not to be nervous and, remain, oh so, nonchalant about the whole tour thing.
All the while I was waiting in the back spare bedroom, sitting in the rocking chair when you came in through the joined bathroom and started filming as Chuck opened the door so that Cheryl and Verle could enter. They walked in and they both lost it! “SURPRISE! It’s me! Cathy!”
That memory YOU filmed and it went viral. As I think about it now, I remember how wonderful it was to be able to be there with all of us…and, the waterworks start to gush!
Thank you again so much for that, Joyce!
It was such a kind, selfless act of love. Your purpose was to reunite your husband, my brother, with his sisters; and, you did! Somehow you knew how important that would be for all three of us. 
You were my sister from another mother. 
Thank you for being you and thank you for loving my brother, me and my family. 
My memories of you are golden and will remain with me forever. Rest peacefully.

I met Joyce in 2004 or 2005 when we both got relocated to Phoenix, Arizona to work at Usaa. She was the most wonderful, sweetest, kindest person I’ve ever known. She adored my son Spencer who has special needs and helped me teach him lots of new things! I lost my mom as a teenager and she truly filled that void for me. I know she loved it and adored her family tremendously. I remember having Friday night poker nights at her house and we would go to Rio Mirage Mexican food on Monday nights because they had $.99 margaritas. She was truly a joy , I’m going to miss her greatly!

Joyce was one of the sweetest, most generous people I have known.
Heaven has indeed gained another sweet angel.  My condolences to the family.




I was very sad to hear the news of Joyce's passing. Joyce was such a good person, I loved going to Kathy's house when we were in high school. Joyce was patient with all of us and was always willing to lend an ear and not judge. So many good memories crammed into a short 3-year span. Sending hugs to her family. 

I was very sad and missing Joyce.  I thought of Her . Her always cheerful beaming face. Her contagious smile.  Her hugs like no other. My tears paused transforming to a warm smile as I felt a spark of joy. The spark of Joy shared to me by Joyce.  I thought of all the times I needed a boost of happy juice or encouraging words; she was always there. I thought she is still always here. Shes is here IN me! Joyce  forever sparks on in all of us she passed joy and wisdom to. We carry it with us forever and we pass it now to others we are around. Long live my wonderful friend Joyce

I met Joyce January 3rd 1977. We moved to Kodiak Alaska where we shared a duplex with her and her family. We became best friends from that day forward.
She was a very special lady , her accomplisments were many. But the love for her family and extended family was most memorable. 
She will always hold a special place in my heart. We will meet again my friend!

I did Joyce’s hair for several years & she became a really good friend . She was so easy to talk to , we had great conversations every time she came in . Such a sweet soul , Rest In Peace my friend . ❤️


I’ll never forget the time she taught me brain fart to resemble dad forgetting something! And when we would hide in the walmart isles when he farted hehe. 

Joyce was a beautiful woman, inside and out. We will all miss her dearly. Prayers for comfort for all the family.
