She was born in Kilgore, TX, on August 27, 1943. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 38 years, Kenneth Franklin Dowdy, and by her mother, Emagene Wind.
Linda and Ken were married February 2, 1961, at her grandmother Hilda Gildart’s house in Kilgore, Texas. Together they had two children and lived in various places across Texas while Ken worked as an oil industry professional. They ultimately co-founded Maverick Sales. They enjoyed traveling, particularly to Las Vegas, and were avid Dallas Cowboys fans.
Linda graduated from North Texas State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She went on to work in property management, overseeing The First Texas and City National buildings.
Linda was active in her community. She served as President of Main Street and volunteered with CASA, Hospice of Wichita Falls, the Girl Scouts, and the PTA.
Linda deeply valued time with her family and enjoyed sharing her hobbies with her husband, children and grandchildren. Her favorite place was Lake Kemp, where her and Ken hosted many gatherings with family and friends. They loved riding motorcycles and four-wheelers, taking sunset boat rides, and water skiing—especially on the calm, early-morning waters. As an avid golfer, Linda could often be found on the course. She served as President of the Wichita Falls Ladies Golf Association (WFLGA) and won numerous tournaments across the state. Linda loved to challenge her grandchildren to card and video games. She was a fierce competitor, played by “house rules,” and was known to laugh while “whooping all over you!”
Linda is survived by her daughter, Kem Hogue and husband Jeff of Bradenton, Florida; her son, Ken Dowdy and wife Marianne of Wichita Falls; her grandchildren, Renee Singletary and her husband Justin, Josh Hogue and his wife Allison, Caitlyn Doty and her husband Garrett, Miranda Dowdy, and Emma Dowdy and fiancé Phalon Mcmillin; her great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Singletary, Tyler Singletary, Haley Hogue and fiancé Dillion Roark, Maycee Hogue, Jeremiah Hogue, Charis Hogue, Connor Doty, and Julia Doty; and her great-great-grandchildren, Nova Leslie and Paxton Roark. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Hennard, and her brother, Ken Umbarger.
Private graveside services will be held at Crestview Cemetery in Wichita Falls on Monday, January 5, at 2:00 pm.
