Micheal Martin Campsey, 77, of Jacksboro, Texas, passed away on March 13, 2026. He was born on June 18, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Harry and Melba Campsey. He grew up in Wichita Falls and attended Rider High School, where he built friendships that truly lasted a lifetime. During those years he developed a love for tennis and the kind of loyalty to friends that would define him throughout his life. After high school, Micheal attended Texas Tech University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
While attending Tech, he also met the love of his life, Julie Holmes. Micheal and Julie married on August 16, 1969. Their marriage was one of deep friendship, steady devotion, and a shared commitment to facing life—both the joyful moments and the difficult ones—side by side. Together they followed Micheal’s path in the petroleum industry, first as an engineer and then as a buyer for Texaco and later Arco.
Micheal’s lifelong dream was to live on a ranch, and in 1993 that dream became a reality when they moved from Richardson, Texas to their family ranch in Jacksboro. There, Micheal found the life he loved most—raising cattle, hunting, fishing, and caring for the land.
The ranch also became a gathering place for new friends and the lifelong friends he had known since high school—friendships that spanned more than 60 years. Micheal loved bringing them out to the ranch to hunt, fish, and share stories, where the conversations were as important as the time spent outdoors, and the stories tended to get a little better with every retelling. He was thankful for their constant support through good times and bad.
Throughout his ranching years, Micheal was known for his industrious nature, continually working to improve the cattle operation and over engineer any project that came along. And, if you ever needed a knife sharpened, Micheal was your man.
Micheal was a strong supporter of his local community and the outdoors. He proudly supported the local fire department and sheriff’s department, and organizations including the Northwest Texas Field & Stream and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was especially proud to continue the work his father, Harry Campsey, began with the Northwest Texas Field & Stream and the Boys & Girls Club of Wichita Falls. In 1967, Harry co-founded an annual Boys Deer Hunt, an event that introduced generations of young people to the outdoors. In the years that followed, an annual Girls Fishing Day and a Girls Deer Hunt also became part of the tradition.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Campsey; his mother, Melba Campsey; his stepmother, Geneva Campsey; and his sister, Harriet Campsey Sides.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 57 years, Julie Campsey; his son Jeff Campsey and wife Karin of Blue Ridge, Texas; son Travis Campsey and wife Mary of Jacksboro, Texas; and grandchildren Benjamin, James, Willow and her husband Andrew, Elizabeth and her husband Jackson, and Maxwell.
While he will be greatly missed by family and friends, Micheal’s legacy lives on in the land he cared for, the traditions he helped preserve, the family he loved deeply, and the many friends who were always welcome through the ranch gate.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. The funeral service will be on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Micheal’s love for community and the outdoors, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Jacksboro, the Jacksboro Volunteer Fire Department, or the Northwest Texas Field and Stream in Wichita Falls.
