

Rene G. Garza, 68, of Olney died Friday, December 23, 2011 at a local hospital surrounded by his wife and children. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church officiated by Father John Pacheco. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park with military honors.
Rene was born June 5, 1943 in Alice, TX to Alfredo and Francisca Garcia Garza. He served our country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was awarded one of the highest honors the military can confer, the Airman’s Medal in 1966 for his voluntary risk of life. He married Loretta Guajardo in Alice, TX June 17, 1972 and together they raised two beautiful daughters. Rene was a warehouseman for Fort Belknap Electric Co-Op where he retired in 2009 after 27 years of service. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Olney. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Rene to no end loved his family, and his country, and was always a proud grandpa.
Mr. Garza is preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Francisca Garza.
Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Loretta Garza; devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and Brett Lieberman of Lubbock, TX, Natalie and Sean Johnson of Hartley, TX; sisters and brother-in-law, Carmen Garza, Alma and Dennis Uribe; brother and sister-in-law, Alfredo and Aurora Garza all of Alice, TX; and two granddaughters, Leah and Brooke Lieberman.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
