Memorial service to be held Thursday, September 8th at 2:00p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home,

6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. Memorial service also to be held Friday, September 9, 2011 at First Christian Church, 3701 Taft Blvd, Wichita Falls, TX 76308. Wichita Falls visitation will be from 12:30p.m. to 1:30p.m., with the memorial service at 1:30p.m. Officiant will be his nephew, Rev. Colby Smith of Muncie, Indiana for both services. Interment to be at a later date in Crestview Memorial Park, Wichita Falls, TX.

Mr. Smith was a Registered Respitory Therapist at Cornerstone Hospital in Austin, Tx. He had also been previously employed by Heart Hospital of Austin and Seton Medical. In addition, Richard had previously serviced a variety of roles for the San Antonio Express-News newspaper, including Austin bureau chief, reporter, and editor.

Survivors incude his nephews Wade Bradley Smith, Erick Bernarr Smith, Rev. Lawrence Colby Smith, and his niece Dena Ruth Martin. He is also survived by cousins Becky Dickson, Dany Browning, Smitty Browning, and David Mikeworth.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Hear Association or the Amercian Diabetes Association.
