Rosie was born in Dallas on June 3, 1922 to Eleanor Walker (Robbins) and James Walker. Having
moved to Wichita Falls when she was fourteen, Rosie graduated from WFHS and attended
Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, VA. She was married to Charles Howe Wilson on
New Year's Day 1943. They were married fifty-seven wonderful years before he passed away in 2000.
Rosie's passion and one of her proudest achievements was her part in the development of
the Wichita Falls Museum and Art Center through the Junior League. She did everything she could to promote it and persuade others to join in this endeavor. In 1964, she became the first President of the Board of Trustees.
When a Planetarium Director was needed, Rosie stepped in to take that position. She resigned in 1972 to become her husband's office manager and medical secretary. The temporary job became a full time commitment, with both retiring in 1986.
Rosie was involved in many community activities. She was Sustaining Emeritus of the Junior League, past member of the Board of Trustees of the Wichita Falls Museum and Art Center, member of Unity Club, and was active in the Women's Golf Association of Wichita Falls Country Club. She participated in Bible Study Fellowship while in her eighties. One of her special loves and enjoyment was teaching Sunday School at First United Methodist Church.
Rosie is survived by her daughter; Lynn Cockrell and her husband; John of Ft. Worth, her son; Rob Wilson and his wife; Linda of Wichita Falls, two grandchildren; Sherry Burkhard and her husband; Chris of Magnolia, John Cockrell, Jr. and his wife; Lee of Ft. Worth, and two great grandchildren; Clayton and Alison Burkhard.
She is also survived by her sister; Polly Robbins Jones of Wichita Falls.
