Vickie Clark was “a good woman.” She was born on May 27, 1941 in Wichita, Kansas to Noel Perry Snell and Dorothy Maxine (Fletcher) Snell. In sixth grade, she moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico with her family. There, she started the “cleanest” relationship with Henry Stingley Clark after they met in a laundromat, and they were married on June 1, 1958. Vickie and Henry enjoyed a truly happy marriage. In June 2018, the family celebrated Henry and Vickie's 60th wedding anniversary. There is no doubt that their marriage was the highlight of Vickie’s full and happy life.
Vickie was humble and helpful. She could often be found gleefully devoting her time to the most tedious and thankless tasks as a librarian for 26 years at NMSU-Alamogordo, as a volunteer, or for her family - cutting things out for vacation bible school, stuffing mailers for Relay for Life, or organizing the junk drawer at her kids’ houses. Vickie did good because it’s good to do good, not for the credit. From time-to-time, she did get credit, though, including the Ralph B. Crouch Memorial Award given to one employee in the NMSU system for outstanding work beyond their day-to-day responsibilities and the American Cancer Society Volunteer of the Year Award for the State of New Mexico.
But it wasn’t what Vickie did that made her so special. It was that her life was oriented to fully loving and devoting her attention to the people who surrounded her. Vickie was there when you needed her, even if you didn’t ask. She was also there to share the fun things, too, driving hours for soccer and football games, dance recitals, graduations, and to dance at our weddings. When she was with you, she was fully present, like you were the only person in the world. She made us feel wholly, truly loved and celebrated, just as we are. Many people have said they are sure Vickie was their biggest fan, and they are correct.
In the most trying times, Vickie was known to “Fully Rely On God.” She was dedicated to her churches, Calvary Baptist Church in Alamogordo and Western Hills Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. Vickie was able to count her blessings, even in the dark. She was a survivor. She taught us how to find true joy and peace even after tragedy. To do that, she loved others entirely, she was mindfully present for the small joys (feeding turtles, rubbing a toddler’s back until she falls asleep, a whole closet of craft supplies), and she recognized and celebrated her blessings.
Vickie was predeceased by her husband, Henry, her daughter, Katherine, her parents, and her brother, Rick. She is survived by her children, Noel (and Carla) and Janis (and Greg), seven grandchildren, Jordan (and John), Stephanie, Nathan (and Kristine), Jaron, Ashton (and Chris), Paxton (and Brittney), and Tori (and Hayden), seven great grandchildren Armoni, James, Eloise, Eleanor, Zeke, Clark, and Bennett, her siblings Jim (and Anna Marie) and Mary Lois (and Frank), sister-in-laws Gay and Peggy (and Skeeter), and numerous treasured nieces and nephews.
