Allen was born on August 04, 1945, to John and Frances Ames who resided in Wellington, KS. After graduating from Wellington High School in 1964, he attended Pittsburg State University graduating with a BAS in Manufacturing Technology in 1966.
A proud patriot, in the Fall of 1966, Allen was a double volunteer, enlisting in the United States Army, then the Airborne, completing a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Infantry Brigade (Sky Soldiers).
After his honorable discharge from The United States Army in the Fall of 1968, Allen worked for The Boeing Company in Wichita, KS then attend Watchmakers School at Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee, OK, graduating in the Fall of 1972 as a trained and skilled Watchmaker operating his own business, Ames Watch Repair in Wichita, Kansas for 45 years, retiring in 2017.
Allen married his high school sweetheart, Diana West, in June of 1968. They were blessed with two sons, Phillip and Jeffrey.
Allen was a lifelong Hot Rodder, member of The National Street Rod Association, Utah Salt Flats Racing Association, and founding member of Kustom Kemps of America Car Club. In September of 2016, Allen completed a life-long goal competing in The World of Speed in Utah racing his custom built 1940 Ford Hot Rod on the Bonneville Salt Flats International Speedway.
Allen was predeceased by: his son, Phillip "Phil" Ames and wife, Diana Ames.
He is survived by: his son, Jeffrey Ames (Leah); grandson, Harrison Ames (all of Wichita, KS); his sister, Kathryn Dobbins (Loyd) of Yukon, OK; niece, Dana Jones (Bill) of Scottsdale, AZ; and nephew, Derek Dobbins (Shila) of Yukon, OK.
Allen was devoted son and brother, faithful husband, good friend, and the kindest, most caring Father, Grandfather and Father-In-Law one could ever hope for. He was beloved by his family and friends and his loss is deeply felt by all who loved him.
A visitation for Allen will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary, followed by a graveside service in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of The Lord's Prayer at 3:00 PM all at 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
