Anna Lea Bolton was born during the Great Depression in Cedar Vale, Kansas on April 4, 1930. Anna was the first of four children born to John and Henrietta Bolton. Her family, including siblings Doris, Thomas, and Margaret, moved to Wichita during World War II so that her father could work at Boeing Aircraft. The Bolton family lived in a modest home in an area called Planeview, on the south side of Wichita near the Boeing plant.
Anna met Thomas Edwin Vaughn while in high school. They were married in 1948 and saved to buy their first house at 2333 South Mosley. Anna and Tom raised their two children, Diana, and Tommy, in that home. They encouraged their children to complete their college education and provided them with financial support. Tommy became a pharmacist and Diana an accountant.
Anna retired in 1990 after working for more than 30 years in the construction industry, first at Decker Construction Company and later at Munn Construction. She was an active member of the Wichita chapter of Women in Construction.
Anna and Tom enjoyed traveling and spent time each winter in Port Aransas, Texas at the Sandcastle Resort for many years, until the drive from Kansas became too difficult. Anna loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There were family get-togethers as often as possible, and she was always interested in their activities. They were members of Dawson United Methodist Church for many years, assisting with events and fundraising at the church. They were past members of Trinity Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Church. Anna and Tom enjoyed 69 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 2017. She was also preceded in death by her son and all her siblings.
After Tom's passing, Anna moved to Glen Carbon, Illinois to be near her daughter. She resided comfortably at Meridian Village retirement home for over five years. Anna Lea Vaughn passed away peacefully with family at her side on January 6, 2024.
Anna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She also was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt. Anna, along with Tom, were always there to help when anyone in the family was in need. Anna will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
