

Billie attended Wichita North High School, Wichita, Kansas, where she graduated in 1963. After high-school, she married the love of her life, Max, in December of 1968, then moved to Texas until Max passed in 2001. After Max's passing, Jean moved back to Wichita to be closer to her family. Jean married Howard Mercer on February 18, 2024 in Wichita.
Billie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wichita.
Billie worked many different jobs, but enjoyed helping others at the Union Rescue Mission until she retired. Billie loved to watch her granddaughters grow up and she kept up with all of their activities by attending choir concerts and soccer games. Being a proud grandma, she dyed her hair bright colors to be able to match their soccer uniforms and to be the "cool grandma." Jean watched all the latest TV shows to talk about with her grandgirls.
Jean's hobbies included crossword puzzles, word searches, shopping, but most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her first husband, Max Remington; her parents, Otha and Minnie Solomon; her brother, Ralph Solomon; her sister, Helen Barnhill; along with her nephew, Larry Barnhill.
She is survived by: her husband, Howard Mercer; her son, Brad (Amy) Remington; her grandchildren, Payten and Avaree Remington; her nephews, Charles Solomon and Roger Barnhill; her step-children, David Mercer and Mickey Pogue; along with many friends.
The casket will be open 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, 330 North Broadway Street, Wichita, Kansas 67202. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with: Open Door Ministry, 402 East 2nd Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67202.
