Billy A. Hall, age 88, of Wichita, Kansas was born on January 25th, 1936, in Newport, Arkansas to Algie and Emma Lee Hall. He passed away peacefully, into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ, on January 23rd, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas.
Billy was raised by his grandparents on a farm just outside of Tupelo, Arkansas. His grandfather was the local blacksmith, and his grandmother ran most of the operations of the farm.
He met his sweetheart, Emily Jean Bressie, for the first time when they were in grade school. When he was about 16, he sent her a letter to ask if she would like to go out with him. She said yes and that started a lifelong relationship.
Billy worked on the pipeline as a welder’s helper for several summers. He then moved to Wichita and worked at Boeing aircraft as a sealer. He also worked at the Vornado fan company before starting at USD 259 in the building maintenance area. Billy moved on to learn several building maintenance crafts.
He started at the school board in June of 1958 and retired in July of 1995. He retired as an Operations Supervisor, overseeing the Masonry department, Glass department, Paint department, Carpentry department, Roofing department and the key shop.
During his work with the Wichita Public Schools, he met a lifelong friend Darryl Salmon and they started and ran a successful flatwork concrete company, H & S Concrete. You can still find their work around this community today.
Billy was a member of the North Star Lodge and had been a mason for over 65 years, as well as he volunteered his services throughout the community and at his church. From plastering, finishing drywall, pouring concrete, laying block brick and tile and painting, there was no shortage on what Billy could do. He especially enjoyed going to Fredonia to work at the Missionary Baptist youth camp.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Algie Hall and Emma Lee Hyatt; wife, Emily Jean Hall; brother, Al Hall; sister-in-law, Rena Hall; brother-in-law, Joe Baughman and grandson, Cory Hall.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Gail Baughman; sons, Jeff (JD) Hall and Mark & wife, Paula Hall; grandchildren, Brian, Nick, Lacy, Matt, Destiny, Romi and Sara; and great-grandchildren, Luke, Lexi, Josie and Bentley.
