Catherine Hazel Lane

Lane, H. (Hazel) Catherine Henderson, 89, of Wichita, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at Via Christi-St. Francis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart E. Lane (2008); daughter, Anne C. Lane (2010); brother and sister-in-law, Robert R. and Ruth Henderson of Arkansas City, Kan. and Ponca City, Okla. Born Feb. 7, 1926, in Arkansas City, Kan., she was a student of art and painting, and pianist at church. Moved to Wichita in early 1950s and worked many jobs in order to help her parents and to study Art at Wichita U. Worked as a commercial artist for the Coleman Company and others, and eventually as a technical illustrator at Boeing, a job she resumed in 1977. Married Stuart E. Lane in Jan. 1958, and for the next 56 years resided in West Wichita, most recently at Reflection Ridge. Lifelong member of Congregational churches where intellect and questions are integral to Christian faith. Avid reader for pleasure and for study of history; lover of Classical music, Performing Arts, and Fine Arts. Survivors include daughter, Susan Lane Piper (William) and grandchildren, Alice (16) and Edward (13), of St. Louis, Mo.; nephew, R.W. (Judie) Henderson, and great-niece, Malynda H. Tally and family, all of Newkirk, Okla.; great-nephew, Spike Henderson (Karey) and family of Blackwell, Okla. Memorial Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at Resthaven Mortuary. A reception will follow at which friends will be welcomed, and any stories to share will be much appreciated. Memorial contributions may be made to Ballet Wichita, or National Churchill Museum, Fulton, Mo.
