Chivas Ray Finley was born in Wichita, Kansas on September 15, 1983, and tragically passed away on December 10, 2025, at the age of 42 due to an accidental shooting. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving parents, Willie James Finley Jr. and Darlene Finley (Nelson); his siblings, Christine Bacci (Steven Bacci), Roxanne Finley, Willie Finley III, and Arieus Finley; and his beloved children, Rayanna Gonzales-Finley, Jaiden Finley, and Giovanni Finley. Chivas was also a devoted uncle to countless nieces and nephews, who adored him as their playmate, protector, and friend.
A lifelong Wichitan, Chivas graduated from Wichita Southeast High School and later attended Wichita State University, where he joined the brotherhood of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, initiated into the Delta Upsilon Chapter in Spring 2004. His fraternity remained an important and enduring part of his life.
Chivas brought his talents and heart to many roles across his family’s businesses—bartending at Taste and See, working admissions at Bethel House Training Institute, and serving as a handyman for Bethel Care Group Assisted Livings. He also contributed his skills at Spirit AeroSystems, showing a tireless work ethic and dependable presence in every setting. In 2024, he returned to school and proudly earned his HVAC certification from WTI, a testament to his determination and lifelong knack for working with his hands.
Chivas’ greatest joy came from family—especially children. He was the dad who learned how to do little girls' hair, the uncle always on the floor playing, and the big kid who lit up every room with laughter and warmth. Chivas loved working on cars, cooking full meals, and eating candy! His loyalty, generosity, and quiet strength will be remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
...Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:55-57
