Clarence L. Engels, 99, of St. Mark, Kansas, entered eternal rest March 25, 2026. Entered this life on August 6, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas, Clarence will be remembered as hard-working, generous, loyal, and selfless, with a perfectionist’s care when it came to his gardening. He grew a large garden and raised their own beef, loved being outdoors, and found deep joy in simple, steady work and time well spent with the people he loved most.
A WWII Army veteran, Clarence served alongside his twin brother Lawrence, as well as two of his other brothers, John and William. He later retired from Cessna after 35 years, where he worked as a shipping supervisor—bringing the same dependable dedication to his career that he brought to every part of his life.
On June 22, 1949, Clarence married the love of his life, Joyce A. (Hladik). Together they celebrated 76 years of marriage before his passing, building a home filled with devotion, perseverance, and care. Clarence and Joyce enjoyed dancing every Friday night, a cherished tradition that reflected the warmth and constancy of their bond. Together they raised 10 children, and Clarence especially treasured spending time on the farm with the grandchildren.
Clarence also enjoyed fishing, growing vegetables, and spending time outdoors—interests that matched his steady spirit and love of family. Whether working in the garden, sharing stories, or simply being present, he offered a quiet strength that will be deeply missed.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Elizabeth (Brady) Engels; 5 brothers; 4 sisters; and his son, Paul Engels. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce A. (Hladik) Engels; his children Kathy (Gene) Helten, Dale (Neva) Engels, Gale (Laura) Engels, Ken (Linda Wisecarver) Engels, Stan (Susie) Engels, Karen (Alan) Wray, Kevin Engels, Mark (Roxann Flowers) Engels and Myron (Amiee) Engels; 26 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildrens; and 1 great great grandchild.
A Rosary will be held Monday, March 30, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 19230 West 29th St N, Colwich, KS 67030. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Monday, March 30, 2026, at 10:30 am. Graveside service with military honors to be held at St. Mark Cemetery following the Mass of Christian Burial.
