Growing up, David attended and graduated from the Kansas School for the Deaf in 1975. After graduating he went to work for Excel Meat packing plant for 12 years and then for USD 385 for 36 years. David loved working at Andover High (11 years) and Andover Central (25 years), the students and staff were a true joy to him.
On July 18, 1981, David married the love of his life, Cheryl (Dinkel) Klein, in Plainville, Kansas. Together they built a strong, joyful, and generous life centered around family.
David loved woodworking and was very skilled. He built large pieces of furniture such as hutches, coffee tables and desks, with such detail. His wife and children remember the hardware trips with such affection. Conscientiousness and selflessness were some of his defining qualities.
Above all, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was the center of his world, and he poured his entire heart into them. He will be remembered for being quiet, kind and humble.
David is survived by his wife, Cheryl Klein; his daughters, Melissa Johnson and husband Ryan (children Mason and Ethan), and Amanda Jones and husband Calvin (children Emma and Paige); his mother‑in‑law Marjorie Dinkel; and his sister‑in‑law JoAnn Dickinson and husband Dave. He is also survived by one niece, and numerous cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Norma Klein; and his father-in-law, Robert Dinkel.
A man of generosity and warmth, David leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and steadfast devotion to his family and community.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Humane Society, an organization close to his heart because of the love of his dogs, Buffy and Katie; and his grand fur babies, Colt, Socks, Clyde, Dutton, Charlene, and Maci and Sophie.
