Dolores Ann O'Hearn, age 90, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Thursday May 2, 2019. Dolores was born April 10, 1929 in Wagner, South Dakota. She was a devoted and awesome mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother. As a young girl Dolores attended Catholic School and joined a group of girls that called themselves "The Eleven from Heaven". The group would have monthly slumber parties on Friday nights and would go to basketball games in a streetcar. Dolores was close with her family growing up. Her favorites were her Aunt Nell and Uncle Clarence from Wagner, South Dakota. She spent many of her summers with them on their farm as a young girl. She began working when she was 15 1/2 at J.C. Penny Company, in the shoe department. She was also taking night classes in typing and shorthand after she graduated. She then took a job with Traveler's Insurance Company as a secretary. Dolores met her future husband, Lawrence "Larry" Edward O'Hearn, when he fell trying to sit next to her in a booth. They always joked that he fell for her at first sight. He proposed after two weeks of courting in April and they were married on December 27, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa. Their first daughter, Patricia, was born in November of 1950. They welcomed their second daughter, Susan, in Wagner, South Dakota, and then they moved to Wichita where the rest of their children, Barbara Ann, Timothy, Donovan, and Matthew, were born. The marriage between Dolores and Larry was a happy one, filled with years of love and respect for one another. Dolores said that Larry was a strict father, but always showed his children that they were his life. Dolores lost the love of her life in January 1991 when Larry passed away. One of the highlights for Dolores in her life was the trip that her children planned for her to travel to Ireland. The children set up an account for her that they would put money in and she would match what they contributed to ensure she had an amazing trip. She made this trip right after her 70th birthday. Dolores enjoyed working outside with her flowers. Later on in life, Dolores worked at TG&Y for 17 years. After retiring from there she went back to work in April of 1992 at Hobby Lobby in the fabrics department and in the office every other weekend. She was also an avid bowler, with an average of 145. She started driving at the age of 63, which was the same time her 16-year-old grandchild was getting her driver's license as well. Aside from her flowers and bowling, Dolores also loved Western movies, blue grass music, and sewing.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Donna (Robert) Perona of Litchfield, Ohio, Susan Louise (Dave) Garner of Wichita, Kansas, Barbara Ann O'Hearn of Wichita, Kansas; sons, Timothy Lawrence (Terri) O'Hearn of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Donovan Patrick (Donita) O'Hearn of Columbus, North Carolina, and Matthew Edward (Julie) O'Hearn of Wichita, Kansas; brother, James (Cathy) Riley; grandchildren, Jason Lee (La'Kendra Denyse) Ryman of Aurora, Colorado, Ami Rae Ryman of Lakewood, Ohio, Robert Joseph (Kate) Perona of Speedway, Indiana, Brian Michael Perona of Tucson, Arizona; Jeffery Wayne (Shelley) Garner of Wichita, Kansas, Tom (Tiff) Garner of Pretty Prairie, Kansas, David Allen Garner of Kansas City, Kansas, Chad Christopher (Rose) Preston of Jacksonville, Florida, Carrie April Wilson of Jacksonville, Florida, Riley Daniel O'Hearn of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Melody Kathleen Wescott of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sean Edward O'Hearn of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Michael Donavan O'Hearn of Villa Rica, Georgia, Connor Patrick O'Hearn of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ryan Christopher O'Hearn of Columbus, North Carolina, Jonathan Matthew O'Hearn of Wichita, Kansas, Jessica Marie (John) Porter of Neodesha, Kansas, and Sarah Ann (Grant) Ingram of Olathe, Kansas; and great grandchildren, Jaden Elijah Ryman of Aurora, Colorado, Peyton Jiliyah Ryman of Aurora, Colorado, Jaxon Michael Ryman of Aurora, Colorado, Brian Perona of Riverside, California, Antoni Perona of Riverside, California, Devin Rain Garner of Wichita, Kansas, Eythan Wayne Garner of Wichita, Kansas, Courtney Elain Lipke of Wichita, Kansas, Tyler Christopher Preston of Tallahassee, Florida, Connor Riley Preston of Jacksonville, Florida, Nora Ann Wilson of Jacksonville, Florida, Adalina Grace Wilson of Jacksonville, Florida, Waylon River Wescott of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Holden Forest Wescott of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Adilynn Elaine Porter of Neodesha, Kansas, and John Wayne Porter of Neodesha, Kansas.
