Father Donald R. Thissen, entered eternal life Saturday, January 18, 2014, at age 69. A vigil will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014, both at All Saints Catholic Church, followed by burial at 1:45 p.m. at Ascension Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Priests Retirement and Education Fund. Father Thissen was born on September 29, 1944 in Kingman, KS. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 30, 1970 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Wichita. During his priestly ministry, Father Thissen served at the following parishes: Blessed Sacrament, St. Francis of Assisi, All Saints, St. Leo, Willowdale, Girard, Frontenac and Arma. He retired to the Priest’s Retirement Center in June, 2009.
Father Thissen was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius A. and Clare A. (Huelskamp) Thissen; brothers, Harold, Norbert, Father Kevin and Jerome; sister, Esther (Ross) Savage.
He is survived by brothers and sisters, Bob, Sister Rita Marie, Francis, Martin, Pat Kampling and Mary Jane Newman.
