Frederick LeRoy Lindenmeyer, retired school administrator, devoted husband, and cherished father, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025. He was 97 years old.
Frederick, lovingly known as Fred, was born on October 6, 1928, in Luray, Kansas, to Frederick Lindenmeyer Sr. and Rachel DeWald Lindenmeyer. His family moved to Salina later that year, where he grew up and graduated from Salina High School in 1946. He attended Fort Hays State University, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1951 and later a master’s degree in 1957.
Fred began his lifelong career in education teaching American History, Biology, and Government at Covert High School, where he also coached basketball. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1954—including time stationed in Japan—he returned to Kansas to continue teaching and later became an elementary school principal. Over 37 years, Fred led schools in Otis, Chase, Kingman, Syracuse, and Jetmore, leaving a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. He retired in 1989.
On June 1, 1952, Fred married the love of his life, Patsy Breathouwer, at the Methodist Church in Hays, Kansas. Together they raised two children and shared 60 wonderful years of marriage until Patsy’s passing in 2012.
After retirement, Fred remained active in his community, volunteering for Hospice, Meals on Wheels, United Methodist Open Door, Catholic Care Center, and Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. He enjoyed time with family and friends and continued to live a purposeful life.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Marla of Wichita, Kansas; his son Douglas (Cynthia) of Rockwall, Texas; grandsons Matthew (Clarisa) of Dallas, Texas and Tyler (Anna Beth) of Rockwall, Texas; as well as five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy Lindenmeyer; four brothers; and one sister.
Fred’s legacy of service, education, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Fred’s life is pending at this time.
