Gary graduated from Wichita West High school in 1959 and joined the Air Force shortly after. He was stationed in Topeka, Kansas, Pakistan, France and Alabama. While stationed in Pakistan as an air traffic controller Gary was on duty tracking Gary Powers’ spy plane when it crashed into Russia. (https://www.military.com/history/francis-gary-powers-one-man-two-countries.html).
In 1967, Gary joined the Air National Guard in Wichita, Kansas and was deployed to Korea from 1968-1969. When he returned, he earned his Associate Degree from Butler County Community College.
Gary married Ramona Ann (Easterly) Feeler in 1963, where they were blessed with two daughters, Cheryl Lynn and Cristina Lynn and a son, Gary (Buddy) Lee Feeler, Jr. Dad was a very proud member of the United States Air Force and the Kansas Air National Guard and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He enjoyed attending the 184th Forever Jayhawks Retiree Breakfasts.
He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church including Harmony Baptist, Pleasantview Baptist, First Baptist Church of Haysville, Grace Harbor and Prairie Trails Cowboy Church. He and mom's affiliation with a church was challenged during Covid and was sadly never restored. I feel this and the loss of his phone (that we could not get him to replace) was a contributor to his decline as he was such a social butterfly.
Gary enjoyed working on cars, building garages and welding. He loved books, Popular Science and Popular Mechanics magazines as well as he enjoyed History. He was proud of his collection of cowboy boots, hats, shirts and cowboy and native American memorabilia/decor. Dad loved his sweets! Four days before he went into the hospital, he drove himself (not sure he should have been driving) and mom to the store to get a stack of half priced Valentine’s chocolates.
Gary is preceded in death by parents, Ernest B. Feeler Sr. and Katherine F. Feeler; daughter, Cristina Lynn; brother, Ernest B. Feeler Jr.; sister, Mary Katherine Burnside; brother-in-law, Norman Burnside; and nephews, Randy Burnside and Ernest (Pete) Burnside.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona; daughter, Cheryl Lynn (Feeler) Campbell and her husband Gregory A. Campbell; son, Gary (Buddy) Lee Feeler, Jr. and his wife Denese; grandchildren: Daniel Lee Feeler, Sarah Anne (Feeler) Morris and her husband Garett, Payden A. Campbell and his wife Rachel, Preston A. Campbell, and Lathan A. Campbell; great-grandsons, Douglas and Samuel Campbell.
