Miss you and your good help on my computer Grant. 


I was a younger classmate of Grant’s at East - he was a tremendous supporter and fan during our East High Soccer games.  As a sophomore I was fortunate to be a teammate of Grant’s on the swim team. He was a funny, hardworking backstroker who always had time for an encouraging word or two -  we all admired his work ethic and commitment to the team.

Grant you were such a good friend. Who would have thought that you picking on me in accounting would have turned into a life long friendship. I’ll miss our conversations and sharing funny memes, but have peace knowing that you are now healed and with the Lord.

Some of the best times ever were spent hanging out with all of our East High friends and riding around in your truck.  How i miss those days.  You always made me smile and you had a huge heart!!

I was blessed to be part of Grants life since early childhood on the Linwood swim team,   We made one hell of a relay team!!
Grant has always been one of my lifelong friends living in different worlds, but we never missed a beat when we did come together.  Excellent man, and an even better friend, he will be missed.  Alex

I worked with Grant for many years at BXC he was the west store manager I was the east store manager he always supported me and be both worked hard to promote both stores

Sad to hear of Grants passing.  Met him at BXC, always friendly, kind, helpful and cheerful.  He really helped me pick out and special order a “forever bike”  my Merlin Extralight which I still have and ride 21 years later... will remember him always.  Sorry to have lost a friend like Grant.  Curt

I first met Grant shopping at the Bicycle X-Change where he worked, always super nice, funny, and knowledgeable and even helpful to another "BMX punk kid" walking in the door. Years later when I turned 16, I was his co worker. We shared so many laughs, memories in that place. It was one of the best jobs I have ever had, and he was a big part of that reason. 

About everybody there had a nickname, and a story behind it. His nick name was 10 speed. The story goes, he went down the street to the Egg Roll King to grab some lunch, the Asian guy working there was like "hey you work at bike shop? How many speeds on bike these days?" Grant replied with, "oh they can be upwards of 21 speeds now." Asian guy: "That too many, 10 speed all you need." He gets his lunch and comes back to the shop. Few weeks go by, and he goes there for lunch again, as soon as he walks in the door the Asian guy shouts from the back "Heeeeey 10 speeeeeeed!" He came back to the shop laughing, and told us the story and there it stuck. 

Kept in touch with Grant over the years after both of us left working there to explore other avenues in life. One of those lifelong friends you always keep close. He will be missed, but will never be forgotten. 

Keep pedaling 10 speed! 

Sweet Grant, I have nothing but fond memories of you and I will cherish them forever. In our Sophomore year,  English class, we made a promise to walk together at our graduation. You made me feel proud! I thank you for always supporting me with the mean girls and telling me to keep my head up.  You seemed to be a life coach,  even back then. You are loved and going to be missed dearly. Until I see you again...fly high and rest in peace. Love always, "Wally"

Grant and I were on the East High Swim Team together which ended up being a tight knit group.  I have some of my best high school memories cheering on my teammates and even though I was *terrible* I loved watching guys like Grant who were super talented and FAST!

We reconnected a few years ago and have been pen pals texting here and there checking in on each other.  Grant and my husband were in a similar battle so we had a bond over just "knowing" and not having to explain things.  He worried more for us than himself and we both looked for new treatments to share with each other.  We talked on the phone last Fall because the conversation was too much to text.  He sounded like the same guy, enthusiastic, determined, positive, funny and caring.  Grant battled hard and is now healed in heaven!  I know he is turning things up a notch and enjoying all of those who have gone before him.  God Bless all who love Grant, he will leave a huge void on this earth!

My Uncle Grant was instrumental in so many things in my life. For my 10th birthday, he helped pick out my most favorite bicycle, a yellow and black Gary Fisher mountain bike. When I decided in middle school that I wanted to learn the guitar, he helped pick out my cherry red Ibanez electric guitar that was a surprise on Christmas morning. When it was time for me to head off to college, he custom built my laptop to ensure I had everything I needed to succeed, with a matching Bluetooth mouse to boot. He never missed a dance recital, graduation, or birthday. He was so proud of his nieces. I will miss everything about my unique and one of a kind uncle, Grant Wesley Dotson.

I remember back in the swimming days and I always admired you how fast at back stroke you were in High School swimming @ East High!!!

It's strange, more than 30 years after graduating, I feel an even stronger bond w/my classmates than I did back then. This news has saddened me greatly. I guess I wanted to believe so strongly he was getting better.  

Grant was a great, popular, likeable, go-to kind of guy.  Rest in peace buddy.

How to begin…. First and most important is that I want to express my condolences and my thoughts are with the entire family.

I first met Grant at Linwood Park Swimming Pool where we were team mates when we were 8 years old.  That lasted until he worked as a lifeguard at Linwood. Also, we were classmates and teammates when we went to East High School.  We became friends fairly quickly and I found Grant to be witty, sarcastic, easy going, and would give me advice even when I didn’t seek it. 

When I found out he was ill, I knew Grant was a fighter I saw it first hand. I haven’t spoke to Grant for a while because after high school we drifted apart and he did his thing and I did my thing and moved out of town for a period of time.  I am having a hard time with his passing. It’s always been hard for me to deal with a death of a friend or relative. I cannot stop crying over it.   

Grant made an impact in my life and I will miss him.  I am honored and privileged to call him a friend and have known him!! Again, my deepest condolences and prayers are with his family and friends!! 

Grant was my Computer Guy, he would always fix my mistakes as easy as making a pie, he was calm and helped an old lady get back on track, so sorry for him to leave this world so young but God has something bigger planned for him.

My heart goes out to Grant's family and to all of the other friends who are experiencing this great loss.  

I have great memories of Grant through the years from him threatening to beat me up (jokingly of course) if I didn't give him the answers on our Geometry tests, him starting my knick-name of "Bones," our fun times at K-State, our texting over all these years about K-State Football stats and outcomes to recently sharing his journey with him.  He was so optimistic and perseverant with finding new treatments; I admired his positivity and enthusiasm in such a tough time.    

I will miss my dear friend greatly, but am happy that he no longer suffers.  Grant wasn't a sit still kind of guy, and the weight of this disease made him do just that.  Be free now, my friend.  Tell Sam, Brad, Brandon and Alexis hello from us all.  Until we meet again...

My sincerest condolences to family and friends of Grant. 

I am fortunate to have been Grant's friend. We spent countless hours together as kids; terrorizing the neighborhood on foot; exploring the city by bike; pushing each other to go faster in the pool; working together as lifeguards; discovering and sharing music with each other.

Though we drifted apart in high school and after, we remained friends and stayed in contact. Grant came to visit me in Lawrence once and we went to see Medeski, Martin and Wood together at Liberty Hall, continuing our bond over music.

Years went by, I had a family and a career and our contact grew less frequent, but once in a while, Grant would call and touch base. He was a true friend in that way, making an effort to stay in touch and I know he did this to other friends as well. He cared enough to take a moment during the hustle and bustle of life to reach out and say hi.

A little more than a year ago, David Brown posted on Facebook that Grant was battling cancer. I got in touch with Grant as soon as I could and he told me the whole story, including grim details. He was very positive, optimistic and ensured me that we would go riding again, he even started sending me links to bicycles and asking me about them.

Since then we've been in contact regularly, texting each other several times a week. He kept me up to date with his treatments and usually pointed me to some youtube video of a song or an album that I should check out along with the backstory of who the artist was and why they were important.

I'm deeply saddened by Grant's passing. I knew from recent conversations that things weren't going well and I've tried to prepare myself for the worst, but the news hit me hard this morning.

I'll cherish so many great memories of Grant and will try and find solace that his suffering has ended, but he was taken too soon. He was special.
