She attended Mounds Grade and Sapulpa High Schools before meeting and marrying Melvin R. Chapman on January 12, 1952. To this union, four children were born: David D., Donald H., Janet S., and Mary E.
Ida was a homemaker until the children married and left home. She then worked as a house cleaner, at the DAV for 13 years, followed by 26 years at Walmart.
Her family, friends, and home were most important to her. She loved to collect clowns, with Emmett Kelly being a favorite, along with carousels, and cups and saucers. In her down time, she kept herself busy reading, working crossword puzzles, walking and yard work. Though, as her health declined, she had to give some of these up, she was still headstrong, stubborn, and never gave up trying, as she always fought for what she believed in. After 87 loving years, Ida passed to her heavenly home on Monday, January 22, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas.
Preceded by her parents; brothers: Paul Eugene and Donald Ray; sister, Jody; sons: David and Donald; and daughter, Janet. Her memory lives on in her loving partner, Roy Huff, of over 30 years; daughter, Mary Bookout; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
“To my family, my last wish to you is to love and take care of each other. You are all I have. Until we meet again.”
A visitation for Ida will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. and a funeral service will follow, Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., both at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Kellogg, Wichita, Kansas, 67209. Ida will be laid to rest, following the service, in Resthaven’s Gardens of Memory, Garden of Christus. Chaplain Brian Richards will be officiating.
