Jack L. Margrave (Grampi), age 89, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021. He was born in Cherryvale, Kansas in 1932 to Homer and Lena (Braidwood) Margrave. He and his family moved to Wichita in 1934.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jan; his son Chris (Stacie); and his daughter Julie (Ron). He is also survived by his granddaughters Samantha “Sami” Brown and Jordan Margrave; his great-grandsons Asher and Brody (Sami); and three step grandchildren, Tyler, Paige and Jared Coleman. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Elinor Patton.

Jack graduated from East High School in 1950 and attended Wichita State University where he studied Geology and was a member of Phi Sig Fraternity. Jack served in the Army from 1954 to 1956.

He took his first oil company position in 1956 with Skelly Oil as an oil scout and later moved to the land department. He was a landman for Petroleum, Incorporated from 1960 through 1967 and a landman for Rains and Williamson Oil from 1967 to 1974. Jack went to work for Tomlinson Oil Company in 1974 and became Executive Vice President of the company in 1976. Jack was Executive Vice President of GIDCO Oil & Gas Associates until his retirement. Jack sold farm and ranch real estate for four years after he left the oil business.

Jack served as president of the Wichita Association of Petroleum Landmen and secretary of the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association. He was also general chairman of the KIOGA convention in 1972; United Way director from 1974 to 1977 and on the Wichita State Alumna Board for several years.

Jack lived a full life as a man of many hobbies including golfing, fishing, hunting, and snow skiing. Above all else he enjoyed entertaining and spending time with family, friends and neighbors. All knew that there would be no shortage of great food, fun and bocce ball at Club66.

A graveside service was held with family at Lakeview Mortuary, Wichita Ks. Donations may be made in his memory to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
