James Joseph Torrey

James "Jim" Joseph Torrey, age 100, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Jim was born June 5, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas to Francis Joseph Torrey and Ethel Mary Fitzgerald Torrey.

Jim graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City, Missouri. After high school, Jim enlisted in The United States Army from 1943 to 1945 ranking as Sergeant. While serving, he was awarded 4 Bronze Stars from his campaign in Normandy, France and Rhineland Central Europe. Following his enlistment with The Army, Jim furthered his education at The University of Missouri obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1950. Shortly after graduating from college he married Dorothy and they were together until her passing in 1987.

He was a devout Roman Catholic and focused his professional career in Sales. On September 10, 1996, Jim married Joan Powers and they were together until her passing in 2016.

Jim is preceded in death by his siblings: Bette, Bob, and Bill Torrey.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Hwy 54, Wichita, KS 67209.

A Graveside Service for James with Military Honors will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:30:00 AM at Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 1208 N College St, Winfield, KS 67156.
