JAMES ARTHUR WINTER ~ August 28, 1934 – June 7, 2021

On Monday, June 7, 2021, James Arthur Winter went to his heavenly home after 86 incredible years here on earth. Jim was born August 28, 1934, in Mexico, Missouri to Arthur and Alpha (Peak) Winter. He was one of four brothers, two sisters and three half siblings.

On October 5, 1957, in Wichita, Kansas, he married the love of his life, Loretta (Prothro) Winter. Their marriage thrived through it all, for 63 beautiful years. Together they had three children, a daughter Terri, son Jim, and daughter Deby. They raised their children in Wichita, moved to Oklahoma City for a period of years and returned to Wichita upon retirement.

Jim was a devoted family man, and truly someone that could be counted on. He was the most committed, consistent, kind and loving person you could know. He was known for his loyalty, patience, graciousness, quick wit, and most importantly, as a true and powerful prayer warrior. Jim was committed to his church, serving in various positions throughout the years. Jim has always been committed to his country and served in the Air Force, retiring with 28 years of service. He then worked for U-Haul of Oklahoma, retiring after 15 years. In retirement he volunteered at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, and Georgetown Retirement Community in Wichita.

As much as he loved the St. Louis Cardinals and Wichita State Shockers, his greatest joy was cheering on his grandchildren and great grandchildren in the many activities in which they participated.

Jim was preceded in death by his father Arthur, mother Alpha, and his sisters Mary Helen Frey and Pat Eklund, and his brother Don Winter. He is survived by his wife Loretta, his daughter Terri O’Neill (Bob), son Jim Winter (Lisa), daughter Deby Johnson (Rick), his grandchildren Matthew (Katie), Ryan (Jennifer), Megan, Paige, Max, J.D. (Nicolette), and Mitch; his great grandchildren Kayden, Cohen, Audrey, Jaxon, Julia and Colton, his brothers Gene Winter (Shirley) and Clarence Winter (Bobbie) and sister-in-law Elizabeth Winter, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 11, at Woodland Lakes Community Church, 770 S. Greenwich Rd., Wichita, KS, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 12, at 10:30 a.m., at Woodland Lakes Community Church. A graveside service will follow in the Belle Plain Kansas Cemetery.
