Janine Fernande Nichols, 101 years old, was taken in God’s arms on May 29, 2015. She was born in Paris, France on April 10, 1914 to Albert and Fernande Sarallier. Janine lived in Paris with her parents and two brothers. At the age of 25, and the following four years, she experienced and endured the Nazi occupation of Paris. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Claud I. Nichols, an officer in the U.S. Army stationed in Paris, and was happily married for 61 years. Their first daughter, Carol, was born in Paris and the three of them came to the United States aboard the ship Queen Elizabeth. Although Janine never worked outside the home, she exemplified what the role of a gracious wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother should be. Her extraordinary devotion to her husband, unconditional love and care for the rest of her family, and unlimited compassion for her fellow man were just a sampling of her beautiful personality. Her strong will, sweet smile, positive outlook on life and faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ only contributed to the impression she left those with whom she came in contact. Janine is preceded in death by parents, two brothers, husband, and granddaughter, Lestie (Cook) Brewer. She is survived by three daughters: Carol (Gene) Cook of Benton, KS, Linda (Richard) Stribling of Casper, WY, Christie (Roger) Nelson of Wichita, KS; step-daughter, Geraldine Tennell of Apple Valley, CA; six grandchildren: Cale (Renee) Nelson, Megan (David) Royer, Felicia (Andrew) Harwell, Briana (fiancé Nick) Nelson, Gail (Josh) Geldien, Owen (Kaity) Stribling; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews in France and the U.S. A private service will be held. Thoughts and memories of Janine would be greatly appreciated by the family through the website of DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary. For those desiring, memorial contributions in honor of Janine, may be made to the charity of one's choice.
