Joseph A. Ryan, age 81, retired owner of Sedgwick Safe Company, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Joseph was born March 21, 1941 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He spent his youth as an Iowa farm boy until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he began his career servicing and selling bank equipment and eventually started his own business.
Joe was proud of being sober for over 45 years, but loved his Pepsi. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and anything outdoors, in addition to spending time at the casino. He was an avid reader of books, a self-taught investor, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with anyone who would listen, especially his kids.
Joe is survived by his wife, Elaine; sister, Janice (Charles) Lombardi, of San Diego, CA; daughters, Kelli (Edward) Cunningham, of Bel Aire, KS, Kerri Ryan, of Houston, TX; son, Vic (Deb) Ryan, of Sedgwick, KS; step-daughters, Michelle (Gary) Cooksey, Amy (Jay) Anglemyer, Julie (Michael) Jackson, all of Wichita, KS; nieces, Christina (Ilan Kedan) Lombardi, of Los Angeles, CA, Laura Lombardi, of Berkeley, CA; nephew, Paul V. (Katie) Lombardi, of Fremont, CA. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Hwy. 54, Wichita.
