Kathryn Lucille (Miller) Posey went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the age of 88. Kathryn was born on November 27, 1935 in Elmore City, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Truman and Willie Virginia (Virgie).
In her youth, Kathryn and her family moved to San Francisco where her father had a job working on ships. He passed away when Kathryn was very young and due to his passing, she took on more to help out at home. She learned to be a terrific cook and was known by many for her delicious cornbread and German chocolate cake.
Later, Kathryn, her mother and sister moved back to Oklahoma where she graduated high school and met her husband, Earl Lee. They crossed paths when he was leading a Bible Study at her house. They married on June 10, 1955. Earl Lee and Kathryn were stranded on their way to Colorado and made their home in Valley Center.
Kathryn became a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served and led in many different ministries. And in addition to her own children, she was a foster mother to many, ran a daycare and served others wherever she could. Kathryn was known by the name “grandma” whether they were a blood relative or not.
Kathryn’s door at the corner of Cedar and Main was always open. It felt like home the minute you walked in. Kathryn would be found reading her Bible, watching an old sitcom or singing to our Lord. She loved to host others in her home where Tuesday lunches, girl’s game nights and Christmas Eve will long be remembered. Those events usually consisted of playing games where the ornery side of Kathryn came out, such as her starting popcorn fights during Spoons and sharing laughter when she had one liners during Nerts.
Kathryn lived a legacy of honoring and loving Jesus and serving others for His Kingdom.
Kathryn joins her husband, Earl Lee, youngest daughter, Virginia Lind; sister, Marian; and her grandson, Derrick Runyan in Heaven. She leaves behind her children: Fondia Clifton (Robert) of Wichita, Carla Runyan (Jimmy) of Valley Center, and Charles Williams of Cheney; seven grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Center, Kansas.
A visitation for Kathryn will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and a funeral service will occur at 2:00 PM, at Calvary Baptist Church, 320 N Sheridan Ave, Valley Center, KS 67147. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Lot 90A, Space 2, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209.
