It is always sad to say goodbye to a relative and especially a first cousin. I am sorry to say we didn't see each other very often. Though  I could look at him and see my Dad, Norman Swenson and my brother, Norman. They looked so much like each other. Definitely all Swensons. I have memories visiting as a child on the farm and riding in maybe his red convertible. So long ago. My love and sympathy to his wife and children.

I remember having him and Carolyn in my squares at Good Time Squares and Village Steppers dances quite frequently, and he never failed to bring some humor nor a smile to any square and any dancer. I just found out about his passing last night at Wichita Solos, and our dancing family is already missing him. In some way, I hope that all of us dancers can bring the same smiles as well as LaVern did. Next time you dance in a square, make it a point to look up and tell LaVern, "this square is for you." It may never be the same without him, but the memories will never fade. Thank you, LaVern, for what you brought to our dance family.

I hope that Heaven is ready for Uncle LaVern!!!  I know that we were not ready to let him go, but I guess they needed someone to make them laugh and smile up there! It was our friendship with LaVern that made us decide to join him & Carolyn in Rockport, TX a few weeks in January.  What good times we had.  And the RV journeys together were treasured times.  July 4 touring the covered bridges together is one of our best remembrances.  Blessings to you dear friend!

So sorry to hear about LaVern's passing.  I have lots of fond memories of our Swedish Christmas Eve dinners with LaVern and my other cousins both on the farm and in Salina.  Karen Palmateer

Oh how we will miss that smile at dances..always making everyone have a good time.  And we will never forget our"password".  We will miss you Lavern!!

We find funny stories each time we see them . The sweetheart birthday dance was so funny and he didn't know Jim Firebaugh was his sweetheart queen. Carolyn, y'all had a 49 year of honeymoon. We'll sure miss Lavern. He was so fun to dance with and knew how to twirl the ladies just right. He even loved to dance their part.  Lavern was always cordial and shared some stories of the farm life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and he'll always be remembered.

I'm so glad that LaVern was a high school classmate of mine and his presence at our class reunions was always a pleasure.  As one of our classmates wrote me today, he never had an unkind word to say about anyone.  And he was  a man of surprises, square dancing better and longer than the rest of us could I'd wager, and creating beautiful western shirts at the sewing machine with as much skill as at his work in the welding shop.  Some folks always make you feel good to be around, and LaVern was one of them.  My sincerest condolences--  Larry

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

We will miss LaVern in the square and at the dances.  He always mad the dances fun, rolling away in the square to keep things interesting and trying to frustrate the caller, as he would sometimes do to me.  I fell we have lost a special part of our family.

Our hearts are heavy for you during this sorrowful time, but know that Lavern's spirit will live on in each of you as you remember all the wonderful lifetime memories that you were able to share with him.  May he rest in peace knowing that he is loved.
