Leon was the youngest son born to Roy and Ina Capps on December 15, 1934, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Leon spent his youth in Pawhuska and at the age of 10, he moved with his family to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. After high school graduation, he began a job at Phillips Petroleum Company. He also met and married the love of his life, Helen Moreland in January of 1953.
In the summer of 1956, they moved with their one year old daughter, Brenda Gail, to Wichita, Kansas, to take a job at KSN. It was there that three sons, Curtis Leon, Miles Aaron and Mark Arlen, were added to the family. After 28 years of service to KSN, he went to work for Boeing in Computer Services for 10 years, until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 70 years, Helen; son, Curtis Capps; two brothers, Edward and Roy "Sonny" Capps.
Survivors include his children, Miles and wife, LeAnn Capps, Mark Capps, all of the Wichita area, Brenda McBroom, of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Courtney McBroom, Emily McBroom, Amber and husband, Geff Garcia, Adam and wife, Kristi Capps, Morgan and husband, Erik Jacquez Diaz, Kristin and husband, Wayne Gleason, Hunter Kamphaus; six great grandchildren, Grace McBroom, Nevaeh Garcia, Noah Garcia, Layne King, Aubrie and Jaxton Gleason.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 7 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita. Funeral service will be 10:00am, Wednesday, April 8, at Central Community Church Chapel, 6100 West Maple Street, Wichita. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of Christus, Wichita.
