Marcia was the youngest child of Vincent and Esther (Cooperrider) Hornbaker. Her early years were spent on the family farm, helping with chores, playing and making mud pies with her sister (using eggs that they sneaked out of the henhouse), participating in 4-H, band, choir, and learning her amazing cooking and sewing skills from her mother. It was in her early years that she developed her lifelong love of reading. She had the talent of being able to read several books at the same time, and often read the ending first to make sure she liked how the book turned out.
Marcia graduated from Lewis High School in 1971 and then continued her education at Hutchinson Junior College, followed by the Wesley Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1974, beginning her 41 year career impacting countless lives as a Registered Nurse. She loved being able to care for her patients, and cherished her "work family." She worked as a nurse in several capacities: Heart Recovery, Cancer, IV Team, and Endoscopy. Other nurses often came to Marcia when they couldn't get an IV to go in; she was a pro!
On November 30, 1974, she married the love of her life, Del Allen. They were blessed with 50 wonderful years of marriage. Marcia is survived by her husband Del, their daughter Gayle Boles (Travis), son Jim Allen, son Ron Allen (Tracy), daughter Kathy Allen; siblings Warren Hornbaker (Ramona), Norman Hornbaker (Cyndy), and sister Jeanette Matthews (Rick); seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law, Angela Allen.
Marcia had a servant's heart, caring for and nurturing people through her nursing career, serving on social committees and as a deacon at church, and most of all, showering her family with love. They were her greatest source of joy. She will be remembered for her loving, selfless nature, strength, generosity, humility, and deep-seated faith. Throughout her cancer journey, Marcia was incredibly brave and never complained. Her faith never wavered, and she drew strength from her belief that God would take care of her, praising Him to the very end. She was an inspiration and a gift to everyone who knew her. Marcia was a guiding light and her absence is deeply felt.
