It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Marie Leonie McGovern who passed away peacefully this December 22, 2020 due to complications as a result of the current COVID-19 virus pandemic. She was born November 13th, 1932, in Frenchville Maine, to Elise Pelletier-Picard and Hypolite Picard. It was there where she met her husband Bernard Joseph McGovern in a town called St Agatha Maine at a local dance hall called the Long Lake Sporting Club. Soon after they moved to Lynn Massachusetts and were married on July 2nd, 1955, where she raised a beautiful family of 6 children. Marie worked at various jobs through her life. One of the most memorable times of her career that she enjoyed was working for the Lynn school district. She especially loved her role as “Mamere” French for Grandmother. She had a vivacious personality and a contagious laugh and a such warm personality that touched so many people's lives during her time spent with us. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all those that knew her and loved her.
Marie is survived by her sons Bill McGovern (Jean Webb), Donny McGovern (Denise), Dan McGovern (Kim), and Mark McGovern (Kristen); sisters Priscilla, Muriel and Laurette; grandchildren Shaun (Denice), Kristine (Nathan), Ryan (Sasha), Burgundy, Nicole (Josh), Michael, Corey (Gretchen), Derek (Kristi), Falon (Eric), Christopher, Elise; and 23 great grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Bernard McGovern; son Jay McGovern; daughter Monique McGovern; father Hypolite Picard and mother Elise Pelletier-Picard; brothers Tony, Gene, Euclid, Phil, Edgar, Joseph; sisters Ursula, Renette, Erma, Claudette, and Claire; and grandson Nicholas.
A rosary service for Marie will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 7:00 PM at Catholic Church of the Magdalen, 12626 E 21st St N, Wichita, KS 67206. A Funeral Mass will occur Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Catholic Church of the Magdalen. Social distancing practices will be followed for the service.
