Marilyn June Davis of Prairie Village, Kansas peacefully passed from this life to the next on August 8, 2022. Marilyn was born on June 8, 1935 in Enid, Oklahoma to Henry and Thelma Cummings. Sadly, Marilyn’s father died when she was only three years old, leaving her mother to raise Marilyn and her older siblings, Hudson and Peggy, on her own.
Marilyn grew up in Blackwell, Oklahoma, where she attended Blackwell High School. She then attended Oklahoma A & M (now known as OSU) and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and gained experience as a student teacher in Topeka, Kansas.
Marilyn met the love of her life, Larry Davis, in Blackwell, and they were married on June 15th, 1958. They were inseparable for nearly 64 years, recently parted for a short time while Larry waited in Paradise for his “Magnificent Marilyn”.
Marilyn spent the early years of her marriage in Ponca City, Oklahoma where her two sons were born and where she began her career as an elementary educator. In 1965, her family moved to Wichita, Kansas where Marilyn taught in Wichita Public Schools for nearly 30 years.
She earned her Master of Education degree from Wichita State University. In addition to her studies and work as a teacher, she cared for and encouraged her family as she had learned from watching her own devoted mother. She often spent evenings and weekends shuttling her sons between home and Scout meetings, school functions and music lessons. Marilyn had a life-long love of music, and the family’s home was often filled with the sounds of Marilyn sitting at the piano playing hymns, show tunes or classical music.
Following retirement in 1995, Marilyn enjoyed traveling with her husband, game nights with her friends, attending and volunteering at Central Community Church of Wichita and visiting her ever-growing roster of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn was absolutely devoted to her family. She is survived by her two sons, Drew Davis of Ozark, Missouri and Dirk Davis of Prairie Village, Kansas, eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Marilyn held a steadfast faith throughout her life, and she was an unwavering example to her family and friends. She has concluded a full life on earth and has ascended to the presence of her Savior. She will continue to be loved by those who knew her.
A graveside service for Marilyn will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita, Kansas.
