Mary Jane Burroughs, was born in Wichita, Kansas on April 19th, 1917. After graduating from North High School, she moved to Chicago to pursue work. She worked in an upscale restaurant as a server to gain experience. After becoming a part-time manager for the restaurant, she moved to Las Vegas to continue her career. In Las Vegas she became an apartment manager and supervisor, and secured a job at a well-known restaurant called The Thunderbird. Mary Jane started her own business while working at The Thunderbird called “Mary Jane’s Tailoring Shop,” where she designed and made all of the outfits for the ladies working at the restaurant. She continued her work tailoring for The Thunderbird restaurant for ten years and had an established, thriving business tailoring clothes for others. Eventually, Mary Jane made the decision to leave Las Vegas and move to Sacramento to be with her mother and brother. In Sacramento she became an apartment manager and supervisor. In the mid 70's, after living in Sacramento for several years, Mary Jane made the decision to return to Wichita to spend time with her three sisters and they remained close throughout her life. Once she returned to Wichita, she became a secretary working for the Red Cross until her retirement. She spent her retirement years traveling to see family, visiting friends, attending church, and enjoying all of her nieces and nephews. She led a very blessed life.
A Graveside Service will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory on August 5th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.
