On Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, Mary Candleria Miller was called up to Heaven. Surrounded by loved ones in her home, Mary passed away peacefully at the age of 85. As the daughter of parents, Benito and Luscila (Chavez) Abitia, Mary was born June 14th, 1938 in Lamar, Colorado.
Mary was a devout Catholic where she faithfully served her church, St. Vincent de Paul in Andover, Kansas. In her career, she worked as a CNA Home Health Care Aide for the state of Kansas for 25 years.
Mary loved to garden, cook with her grandchildren, play bingo, listen to Mexican music, and visit different casinos to gamble at. Growing up with rich hispanic roots, Mary attended many dances. Plus, she was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, and enjoyed watching college football on Saturdays cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Most importantly, there was nothing she loved more than spending time with her family, and making sure they were always fed (and going home with a doggy bag).
She is preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Sean Blue, along with her two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her children, Karen (Jerry) Hallman of Wichita, Kansas, Richard (Cecily) Jimenez of Rose Hill, Kansas, Patricia (Steve) Clark of St. Louis, Missouri, and Kimberley (Steve) Ewert of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Albert Abitia of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Vicki Andrade of Garden City, Kansas; along with her 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8th, 2024 from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary (11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas).
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Saturday, March 9th, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM. Both events will take place at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Andover. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita, in the Garden of Love, Lot 130C, Space 1.
