As a young man, he served in the Korean War where he learned the trade of lithography. Upon return he was a dedicated employee at Donlevy Lithograph until his retirement in 1994. He was a long time resident of Wichita, KS where he married his beloved wife of 51 years, Marjorie Nelson. When Marjorie was diagnosed with MS, he was a wonderful husband and caregiver for her until her death in 2006. As time passed, Mike met Vivian through church, they married, and spent their retirement years with his children, the grandchildren, and enjoyed time together which included outings at the state fair as well as lots of shopping. After her passing, he spent his last four years basking in the Florida sunshine in the home he shared with his daughter, Jill, and son-in-law Craig, and beloved dogs Simba and Nala.
Preceded in death by wife, Marjorie Nelson; 2nd wife, Vivian (Igo) Nelson; son, John Nelson; 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
Survived by daughter, Jill (Craig) May; daughter in law, Connie Nelson; sisters: JoAnne Ashburn and Jeannette Eiden; grandchildren: Justin (Kris) Sweet, Calvin (Cinda) Nelson, Krista (Quentin) May-Shackelford, Sarah (Jared) Simon, Chad May, Micah, Rebekah, Lydia, and Anna Nelson; Great-Grandchildren: Halie May, Antonio Nevarez, Aria Shackelford, Audrey and Zoey Sweet, Xander and Finnegan Simon.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023 at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita; funeral service 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at Glenn Park Christian Church, 2757 S. Glenn Avenue, Wichita; interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of Lord's Prayer.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with Glenn Park Christian Church, 2757 S. Glenn Avenue, Wichita, Kansas 67217.
