Max E. Wheeler, age 96, Wichita, Kansas, passed away on February 1, 2026, at his home. He was born on November 19, 1929, in Osborne, Kansas. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired Beechcraft engineer with 39 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans - Kansas Chapter 4 since 1958, serving as treasurer for over 40 years. Max was an avid fan of KU Jayhawk basketball.
Max was preceded in death by his wife, June Wheeler; father, Elton Wheeler; mother, Viola Wheeler; brother, Ed Wheeler; and a sister, Irene Conn.
Survivors include sons, Steve Wheeler, Brad and wife, Barbara Wheeler; grandchildren, Audrey and husband, Andrew Savikas, Samantha Layher, Jeremiah and wife, Randi Lynne Wheeler, James Margwarth, Nicholas Griffin, Jacob and wife, Christina Griffin; numerous great grandchildren, nephews, niece, sister-in-law, and friends.
Graveside service will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita, KS, 67209 on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 2:30 where he will be laid to rest in the Garden of Gospels.
