I just found out tonight that Nancy was my biological Aunt. She was my dad's sister. I would love to visit with one of her daughters. Please reach out to me through my email or Facebook. I guess we are cousins?

I'm so sorry, Cathy. When my dad died at the beginning of 2004, my mind was dominated by the then-recent memories of his illness and decline. If that is what you are feeling now, I want to promise you that those memories that are now in the forefront of your mind...all the bad stuff associated with your mom's struggle and her cognitive (and physical) decline...those memories will fade quickly away. And you'll be left with only the best and happiest in their wake.  Love you.

I saw the message from you. It won’t change Nancy is my American grandma and she’ll be in my heart forever. We are all welcome to have you guys.

The one thing I’m really sad is I can’t go there and say goodbye. Please say goodbye for us with a lot of love.

Nancy is a wonderful woman.  She is the happiest person because she has such a great family.  
I worry about Mike.  They were always together and they will be together forever.

I remember fondly also, helping in her classroom the year she taught my daughter, Erin, 2nd grade at St. Joe. She had the Japanese exchange student then, Namisan - a wonderful experience for the kids!

I heard about Nancy and I was in shock and in tears hearing about this very sad news. 
I remember back when I was still single, whenever I had the time off from work I used to visit Kansas and she took me to different places, and also went with me when I had my ears pierced. I also remember when Cathy and Dale came to  visit Osaka and after, Regan also came to visit us. We rode a ferry and went sight seeing. I could still remember and hear her laugh. She always made sure to use understandable English so I could understand what she was saying, and remembering her kindness makes me feel sad again. 
During these sad and hard times for everyone, our hearts are glad that she was with everyone before her departure to be with our heavenly Father. 
While we talk about our memories that we have with Nancy, there will be times when we shed our tears and smile when we remember all those good old days. 
It may be difficult during these days, but let us be strong for Nancy and for our loved ones around us. 
Our hearts are with you during these difficult times.

I saw your mom’s obituary on Facebook this morning and the tears just kept coming.  I am so deeply sorry for your loss.  From the little time I spent with your mom at the Moms Demand Action events and lobby days, she was just such a genuine and caring person.  I loved her energy and I’m so sorry to hear of her passing.  Please let me know if there’s anything you need in the days and weeks ahead—I miss seeing your face but I know it’s been a hard year all around.  I hope we can catch up soon.  And in the meantime, please know that you and your family are in my thoughts.

The day I arrived at Wichita airport, Nancy welcomed me with a big sign that said “Nami” and a big smile on her face. From that moment, I felt safe and comfortable. In 1993, I was an intern from Japan to teach Japanese and Japanese culture at St. Joe elementary school, where she was also teaching. She was also my host mother, together with Mike, her husband, they welcomed me into their home and their hearts with open arms. They made my time abroad an experience I will carry with me forever. She was so kind and open-minded and a wonderful lady. She took me many places and I had so many new experiences that I would never be able to do in Japan. She was thoughtful, caring, loving and treated me like a family member. I still remember the Christmas time she gave me a stocking with my name on it. That meant so much to me. I will never forget those precious days we had together, and she will always in my heart.

It is with a heavy heart I post today. I lost my mom last night after a long and hard fought struggle with cancer. My mom was the best....not at making cup cakes or flashing a genuine smile for a camera.....those things she couldn’t do.....but at being a kind person and putting others first she was absolutely top notch. She wasn’t just my mom but my friend and, together with dad, she helped me raise my daughters and I will be forever grateful. Mom was truly a special person and I was a lucky girl to get to claim her as mine. When we were growing up I know she went without fancy clothes and expensive trips to give my sister and I everything we needed and much of what we wanted. She always put us first. And in keeping with the spirit of putting us first she passed away last night, the day before school conferences giving me a good reason to play hookey.....and for that I say ‘Well played Mom, well played’.

Dear Grandma,
Thank you for being the best Grandma anyone could ask for. Thank you for being my best friend. Thanks for always being there for me when I needed you. You always put everyone first. Even on days when I was in a bad mood, you always were by my side. Thanks for being the person who I could always call when I needed to hear a friendly voice. I’ll always remember our really good dinners we had, the days I stayed the night at your house and we woke up and had a really good breakfast, when we read books together, the vacation to Turks and Caicos. I will cherish all the memories we had forever. People admired you for everything you did. You were such an inspiring person. You inspired me in so many ways. I can’t wait to continue your legacy down here for the whole world to see. I’ll remember you forever. You will always be with me in my heart for as long as I live.
