Norma Y. Tolson

Tolson, Norma Y., 80, passed away Sep. 9, 2010. Visitation: 4-8 PM Thurs. at Hillside East, 935 N. Hillside, Wichita. Services: 11 AM Fri., also at Hillside East, with interment at White Chapel, Wichita. Norma was born Nov. 15, 1929, the youngest of two children born to John and Willa Mae Young. John, Willa Mae and her brother William preceeded her in death. Norma was a member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church. In 1951, Norma met and married Frankie Tolson while they were students at Pittsburg State Teachers College in Pittsburg KS. They had a long and loving marriage for 54 years. From this union there were 6 children born: Johnny, Craig, Dionne, Jeannine, Gina and Nickole. Norma’s husband Frankie and Gina preceeded her in death. Norma received a B.A. in Business Education and a Master in Elementary Education from Wichita State University, and was an entrepreneur in business. She was gifted with a singer’s voice, and an explorer’s enthusiasm, and was a published author. As CFO of American Business Center, she partnered with Universities and Businesses to provide many opportunities for personal and environmental Improvements in Wichita, and was instrumental in securing our North Branch Library for local residents. Norma leaves behind 3 sons, 2 daughters,11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
