Born January 8, 1966 to William and Geraldine Hutcheson, Odis was known to most as “Brad”. He had an extensive family, including his loving wife of 25 years, Carolyn Hutcheson, his children, Aaron Hutcheson, and Paris (Dalton) Gosch and grandchildren, Aryana Hutcheson, Orin Gosch, and Holden Gosch. He also had several brothers, Keith Hutcheson, William (Linda) Hutcheson, and Kevin (Jenny) Hutcheson.
Brad was also privileged to have what he called his “Found Family”. This included his chosen parents, Ed and Sandie Summers, chosen brothers, Kim Nixon and Mike Summers, and chosen sisters, Debbie Jordan, Kathy (Bill) Davis, Kim (Jeff) Sauvé, Janet LaBrake, and Tani Lance.
From both families, he also had many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Brad graduated from Wichita West High in 1984, where he met his future wife. Though they wouldn’t date until reconnecting, years later. After high school, Brad spent many years living in Colorado, where he ran High Country Appliance Repair with the Summers family. However, his life-long love, and sometimes profession, was working on cars. Whether repairing, modifying, or restoring, Brad enjoyed both mechanical and body work. Once, he even correctly diagnosed his sister-in-law, Willa’s car trouble over the phone. One of his favorite upgrades was to a Honda Goldwing motorcycle that he and his wife rode for several years. He passed this love for all things motorized to his son, Aaron Hutcheson.
There are countless stories of people who brought their broken mechanical items to be fixed by Brad. Often, even if it was just broken pieces in a box, he was able to re-assemble and repair those items. Nana Cleo, of his found family, was known to call him her “MacGyver”, due to his ability to repair equipment, even with no prior knowledge of it. He shared this interest in engineering and repair with his daughter, Paris Gosch.
Besides cars and mechanical hobbies, Brad was a devoted football fan. He spent many Sundays decked out in Kansas City Chiefs gear, cheering on his team. Brad was also an avid Geocacher and Munzee player. In fact, he was a co-creator of many Munzee Clans for the Wichita area. Operating under the names FamilyfunICT and Lugnuts, you can find traces of him in both games all over Kansas, Colorado, and Hawaii.
Brad is preceded in death by his birth parents, chosen father and chosen brother, Mike Summers, parents-in-law, Carroll and Patricia Higgs, and nephew, Nathan Watkins.
Honorary pallbearers are Randy Wilson, Justin Sauvé, Bryan Nixon, Bubbie Nixon, Matthew D.K. Watkins, and Andre Baines.
A private memorial is to be held at a later date.
