Oscar was the cherished son of the late Jose and Paula (Rodriguez) Delgado and a beloved brother to Raul and Rangel.
Growing up during the challenging times of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Oscar left school in the 3rd grade to work alongside his family. These experiences instilled in him a profound work ethic and an enduring commitment to family values.
On August 11, 1957, Oscar married, Ernestina Ortiz, in Harlingen, Texas. Together, they built a loving family, raising five sons: Rolando, Ruben, Raul, Rodolfo, and Roberto. Oscar passed down his wisdom and cherished the memories they created together.
Oscar’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He proudly shared his beliefs at the First Mexican Baptist Church, where he was a devoted member. After Sunday services, you could often find Oscar lounging in his chair, cheering on his favorite baseball teams, including the New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs, and Atlanta Braves. Despite his love for sports, Oscar’s true pride lay in his family. After 20 years of dedicated custodial work for USD 259, he ensured his family’s future with unwavering support.
Oscar Garcia will always be remembered as a stoic man who led his family with faith and love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ernestina; sons, Raul (Michelle) Garcia and Roberto (Tonia) Garcia; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
