Paul Edward Dugger was born in Harlan, Kentucky on April 25th, 1935 to Fred and Oma Dugger. He was the seventh of twelve children, but he was sure to get his bluff in on his older siblings early (or so he said). He spoke fondly of always having a full house, playing basketball with his friends, and even selling empty Coke bottles to local moonshiners for 5 cents apiece.
Following high school, Paul joined the Air Force and was stationed in Salina, Ks. It was there that he met the love of his life, Marilyn Doll. After being set up on a blind date to go Christmas caroling, they quickly became smitten. They were married on August 17th, 1958.
The newlyweds made it through Paul’s deployment to Thule, Greenland, a place he vowed to never return to if he could help it. Once home, they moved to Wichita, Ks where Paul began his career as a salesman of office equipment for Wilbur E. Walker Company. Paul worked for Wilbur E. Walker for over 35 years, eventually becoming part owner.
Paul and Marilyn welcomed their first child, Jeff (husband of Terri), in 1961, followed quickly by Mike (partner of Kellie) in 1962. Tim (husband of Karen) came along in 1966, and Kim (wife of Paul Attwater) completed their family in 1967.
Paul was an incredibly devoted husband and father and he loved his wife and children deeply and without condition. More than anything, Paul wanted his children to know the Lord, and through him, they saw a wonderful example of what our heavenly father is like. Quick to love, slow to anger, a fierce protector, a wise counselor, and a soft place to land.
Paul was involved in his church, First Bible Baptist, for many years and made countless lifelong friends there. He was also a founding member of Summit Church, now LifeChange Church. He enjoyed westerns, basketball, fishing, dancing, and loved to share a big bowl of popcorn with Marilyn during a movie.
Through the years, Paul and Marilyn were blessed with three grandchildren - Alexis Paige, Zach, and Sophie and two great-grandchildren, Maxine and August. Through the marriage of their daughter, they also gained four bonus grandsons, Patrick, Tom, Nick, and Joey.
Though we are sad to see him go, we are honored to have known and loved him. He was a force to be reckoned with, and whatever room he was in was filled with his presence. We will miss his quick wit, his hugs, his sparkly blue eyes, his contagious laugh, and his honest words of advice. His legacy and memory will live on through all of us who knew him.
