Peter was very active in Coast Guard activities attending meetings everywhere they lived. He belonged to the American Legion, and his daughter Peggy awarded him a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary. One of his passions was taking care of feral cats. He built them homes, made sure they had food and water and even adopted them if they chose.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Janet Van Horsen; brother, James; sisters, Margaret and Eleanor; son, Peter; and daughter, Janet.
Peter is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gail (Has Brouck) Van Horsen; daughter, Peggy (Michael) Pollen; grandchildren, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Pollen, Jerod (Tamara) Pollen, and Damon (Jenna) Morrison; brother, Edward (Betty) Van Horsen; as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren, great nieces, nephews and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service with Military Funeral Honors for Peter will be held 1:00pm, Saturday, August 17th, at Church of the First Born, 3742 South West Street, Wichita, Kansas 67217.
